An impactful story about Immigration
Reading this book at the moment is very difficult, because we are in the extreme moment of the world. We turn on the television and see news about war and about people dying or people fighting for their lives. After reading this book, you imagine things that should be happening and that are not seen in the news. It’s very difficult, sad and exciting, but it’s very important. Isabel Allende write masterfully.
I loved the book, it’s my first book from Allende, and I’m about to buy another book from Allende, the writing is beautiful! Her sensitivity is fantastic, the theme is difficult and she achieves from the perspective of the child, and you know what happens, but from the perspective of the child you see differently, because she can show the purity of the childish look and how they use their imaginations to deal with difficult situations, and it’s much harder for you as a reader. I loved how she connects the stories and how the past of the adult characters is important to the action of these people in the present.
People think that history is past and finished, but Allende shows that it is not, history repeats itself in other ways and we need to pay attention to the signs to do something, because the world is being cruel, as in the past. So I’m thinking about how important it is to study the past and reflect on it, because it’s like Cazuza, the Brazilian singer, said "I see the future repeat the past".
I really recommend this book!
