Mixed feelings
The book is a courageous dive into the author's traumatic experiences and familial struggles, offering a glimpse into the darker side of fame (as a kind actress) and personal relationships. While the narrative attempts to unpack the resentments and emotional wounds, it falls short of reaching the heights of literary mastery.
The author, known more for her role in iCarly, delivers a story that feels flat and uninspired despite the horrific events lived by the author. This may not come as a surprise, considering the author is not an actual writer.
One of the book's weaknesses lies in its storytelling, jumping from one topic to another without sufficient depth or exploration. Characters and experiences are glossed over, leaving readers craving more insight and detail. Additionally, the repetition of certain themes and ideas becomes tedious, diluting the impact of the author's message.
As a fan of "iCarly,? it was heartbreaking to what she went through, however, the book's shortcomings prevent it from being the transformative masterpiece that some reviews and marketing materials might suggest.
Despite all the flaws the book offers a raw and unfiltered perspective on fame, family dynamics (a narcissist mother and grand mother and a non present dad), and personal growth. While it may not be a literary gem, it serves as a reminder of the complexities of celebrity culture and the resilience of the human spirit.
