I’d left the theory and school behind for my study abroad program and plunged into the Amazon in the first real adventure of my life. My plan was to study the influence of modern society on tribal cultures; the fact that I, Felicity the studious, would be influenced by love in such a remote and dangerous place…!

All I wanted was an interview with the elusive Jebá – the man who bridges the gap between the jungle tribes and the government outreach programs – but I got more…so much more.

Yes, there is savagery amongst these isolated communities, but more savage are the “civilzed” drug traffickers, the Selvagens Verdes. They become the rainforest and camouflage their crimes in its undergrowth. When I stumbled upon them, I thought that that was the end. No graduation. No wedding. No grandchildren for my parents…

And then the jaguar appeared and defended me with its noble savagery. But why?

Why maul them and leave me untouched? And why was my fate now entangled with Jebá’s?
