Hattie Swift has never known any home but Majestica. An orphaned maid-in-training, she dreams of working there when she grows up, just like her parents. Evelyn Ridgewell, the haughty niece of the hotel's owner, was recently expelled from boarding school, but she'll do anything to keep her uncle from finding out, since this year she's finally allowed to go on the hotel's famous wilderness train excursion.

Evelyn isn't happy when Hattie is assigned to accompany her on the trip at the last minute. She's thirteen now, old enough to travel on her own! Then things get complicated: the train breaks down in the middle of the jungle, and the magical fences keeping guests safe from the animals fail! Along with their new friend Jacob Threadborne--an apprentice magician on a top-secret mission--Hattie and Evelyn must work together to get to the bottom of what's gone wrong at Majestica. Can they all make it out of the park alive?
