AnnotationsThis book is unique because it contains a literary criticism that was made by Jannette TorresThe Heart of Darkness tells the story of an Englishman named Charles Marlow, who gets a job for a Belgian company. This Belgian company is engaged in the trade of ivory from Africa, so the contact with the African natives was constant and according to them at the same time it was dangerous. Marlow manages to be hired thanks to his aunt widow, who was very influential in society and had many contacts in the company for which Marlow goes to work. In addition, the company was looking for an employee and were eager to hire Marlow, since the captain of one of his ships had been killed by a conflict with the African natives. After a long wait of months, visits to the doctor, signatures of papers, among other things, Marlow is finally sent to his mission to meet Mr. Kurtz and bring him back to Europe.Through the journey through the Congo, Marlow will witness several strange events that occur during his journey, as well as the cruelty of the Europeans towards the natives. In turn, during the trip they are victims of attacks by the natives. As Marlow gets closer and closer to Kurtz station, he will get to know it more thoroughly. By then, Kurtz had become the idol and boss of many natives, and his ideas were increasing exponentially and had come very far. In one of the attacks by the natives, one of the sailors of Kurtz dies, but thanks to this event, Marlow manages to find the station of Kurtz. Marlow had a hard time convincing Kurtz to return to Europe, and he finally succeeds. However, Kurtz was already very ill and it was impossible for him to reach Europe, since he died during the return trip. Before Kurtz died, he managed to give Marlow his literary belongings and some important documents where he narrates and explains the hell in which he had lived all this time.However, as soon as he returned to Europe, Marlow realized that everything that had belonged to Kurtz had passed through his hands: his soul, his body, his station, his projects, his ivory, his career.
