marcosm 07/11/2020Age of Swords, Michael J. SullivanAge of Swords is a good follow up to Age of Myth. Since I don't normally read reviews, I thought this would be set in the same world, of course, but some generations later. Instead the story picks up right after the events at the end of the first book.
After being attacked by giants, the Rhune at the Dahl Rhen, under the guidance of Persephone, decide they must prepare for war against the Fhrey. That preparation involves getting weapons and with that in mind they decide to trade with the dwarfs. So a small group sets up to the land of the Dhergs. That part of the story reminded me a lot of the Fellowship of the Rings. The journey through Neith is tense and the dwarves Frost, Flood and Rain provide a comic relief.
Without getting any further into the plot details, the overall feel of the book is very good. Sullivan doesn't wastes much time, balancing world description and pacing in a enjoyable way.
Mature storytelling and character building. Looking forward to the next chapter in this series.
